World Internet Conference - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

The WIC is an annual even held in China with the aim of bringing government agencies together to discuss the internet and the countries policies on internet usage.

The public reaction to this conference has been mixed and many regular internet users see it as a joke as China’s internet censorship is extremely strict. Furthermore while the conference has released initiatives like the Wuzhen initiative that promotes the development of the internet, Chinas own censorship of the internet is contradictory to this so it seems highly ironic. Historically, there have been few countries that have sent representatives to this conference as it is seen to promote Chinese views on policing the internet, a view which many disagree with.
