Social VPN - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary
A Social VPN is a type of Virtual Private Network that is established between friends or peers, and is generally setup through a social networking platform. The main aim of a Social VPN is to provide a secure data link between friends or family without having to worry about the hassle of all the intricate protocols and connection setup - It is meant to be easy to create and maintain and does not require advanced networking or VPN knowledge.
Social VPN’s will still contain all the functionality of a standard VPN connection such as symmetric key encryption, routing, dynamic IP address assignment and host naming. A user will have little to do in the forms of setup or configuration and it is literally a case of creating the connection using authentication.
