OpenIKED - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

Open IKED is based on the IKEv2 Protocol (Internet Key Exchange) which is used to authenticate IPsec VPN connections and is intended to provide more secure and smoother VPN connectivity. OpenIKED has been developed as part of the OpenBSD OS and is open source, free to use and can be downloaded and implemented by anyone.

The software aims to provide a solid implementation of IKEv2 with great security features and interoperability with other protocols concerned with authentication. OpenIKED uses much of OpenBSD’s security features and there have been few errors and incidents reported concerning its use. The daemon is licensed under the ISC License and is basically free to implement in any way developers see fit.
