A news embargo is a form of agreement where a news article is delayed on purpose to meet a certain criteria or to coincide with a particular event.
A business or organization, or even a government may request an embargo with a publication company to control the release of information. They may request that a certain event or piece of news is not reported on, or released until a specific date. This could be a new product, an important political event, or even a new government law that has been passed. The media will still be given advanced notice of the article so they can create relating media and journalism, however if they breech the terms of the embargo they may face future penalties concerning the availability of work etc.
