n2n - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

Also known as Node to Node, is a method of data transfer particularly in telecommunications. N2N is implemented in the OSI (Open systems interchange) reference model using the Data Link Layer (Layer 2) and the Physical Layer (Layer 1).

Nodes apply to any device in a network in-between a path that data can be transferred too such as a router or a workstation. In these types of transmissions, the point of transmission uses source coding, channel coding, and finally line coding to produce a baseband signal. When the data has been transferred the receiving node will effectively “un-do” these three transformations using error detection, decompression and demodulation.
