Mediated VPN - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

A Mediated VPN is a type of network topology involving multiple participants who connect to a Virtual private Network through a third party switchboard. A traditional VPN will be implemented within a business’s infrastructure and not have any outside involvement.

A mediator’s role will involve managing the VPN (Or multiple VPN’s) and ensuring correct authentication is in-place, and also assigning IP addresses to each device connected to the VPN, it may also encrypt data for security purposes. Using a Mediated VPN will be cost effective as there is no need to employ someone to maintain the VPN network - All you will have to do is pay a subscription fee and then understand how to connect to the mediated VPN.
