Media blackout - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Encyclopedia

A media blackout is a form of censorship performed on media outlets concerning a specific event or topic.

A media blackout will involve a specific event and there will be no publication of media relating to this event by any publisher including newspapers, TV stations and Radio. If you try and find any up to date and relevant information on the subject it will be extremely hard to find as there will be no published sources to cite. Media blackouts may be organized within the media industry if many large organizations feel that a certain subject should not be published, and in some cases a government may enforce a media blackout to control the flow of information. This could be reporting on things like events in a war that could potentially reveal sensitive information to the opposition.
