KickassTorrents - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Encyclopedia
KickassTorrents was a website that was shut down in 2016 after the domain was seized by the US government.
This website served as a directory that contained a list of torrent and magnet files that enabled users to facilitate peer to peer file sharing. At its peak, the website had over 1m active users per day and it used many different domain names to avoid the site being taken down. Throughout its history, KickassTorrents experienced much backlash due to it infringing on many copyright laws and allowing users to download material that had copyright restrictions. In several countries, access to the domain was completely blocked such as in the United Kingdom. In 2016, the US department of justice announced that they had arrested the supposed owner of the KT websites.
