Cyber hygiene - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary
Cyber Hygiene is the term used to apply to the daily rituals and processes an individual can take to improve their cyber security and reduce the risk of having their personal information stolen or online devices hacked. Cyber Hygiene and Cyber Security should not be confused as they are two completely separate concepts.
Processes involved in cyber hygiene can include performing virus scans, updating your virus protection, making use of a firewall, using an email scanner, regularly changing passwords, performing software updates and backing up personal data onto external hard drives or cloud storage services. The level of cyber hygiene in the general public is quite poor - Unless you have experience with using computers and understand some of the security risks, you may not think to perform any of these tasks.
