Coinye - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Encyclopedia
Coinye was a cryptocurrency that was created in 2014 and was released to the public in January of the same year. The project is now abandoned and the currency has been deemed defunct was of May 2014.
The name Coinye is a reference to the American music artist Kanye West, and the currency used a depiction of West as its mascot and on the official logo. Due to the use of the rappers name and identity, West's lawyers sent a cease and desist order to Coinye ordering them to immediately stop operations. The reasons cited were due to the currency infringing on a registered trademark. The currency changed its name and website address and removed all references to West, however this was not deemed sufficient by West's lawyers and a lawsuit was filed. Due to the persistence of the lawyers, the currency was shut down and the developers left the project.
