Clean IT Project - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

This project was instigated by the European Union in 2013 with the aim of preventing online terrorism, cyber-attacks and illegal online activities. The project aims to create a universal document that prompts individuals and corporations on the internet to maintain a level of transparency, not engage in unlawful actions, and to help any government to identify potential threats and acts of terrorism.

The main objectives of the Clean IT project include creating a set of guidelines that people should adhere to when dealing with online terrorism, and a set of proceedings that will reduce the influence of terrorists on the internet. There were many countries involved in the Clean IT project including the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Spain and Hungary.
