Certificate Authority Security Council - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

This council was established to promote ideas of internet security and provide education about the internet and the potential security issues that arise from using it.

The council was formed in 2013 and is made up of the most important certificate authorities including Symantec, GoDaddy, Entrust, Trend Micro and Comodo. CASC is responsible for supporting the CA/Browser Forum and also the development of SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and to oversee the activities of Certificate Authorities. While the CASC does not actually define any internet standards themselves, they aim to educate and aid those organizations that are responsible for maintaining standards to ensure best practices are always used.
