CA/Browser Forum - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

This is a voluntary professional organization that is built up of various Digital Certificate Authorities and vendors of various software including operating systems, internet browsers and other apps that uses Digital Certificates and the X.509 standard. Currently the Browser Forum includes a large amount of certificate authorities and the main internet browser producers - Microsoft, Apple, Mozilla and Google.

The main aim of the forum is to create guidelines for the issue and management of digital certificates, to audit authorities wishing to distribute EV SSL Certificates, and distinguish between the different types of certificates available. In 2013 a Certificate Authority Security Council was formed that promotes the standards and procedures outlined by the CA/Brower Forum.
