Anonymizer - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary
An Anonymizer is a tool that allows users to browse the web in relative anonymity and engage in untraceable browsing. This need for anonymity comes from the open nature of the internet and the fact that there are a huge amount of methods in which your private data and information can be accessed.
Some countries practice internet censorship, and there are organizations and individuals who seek to persecute people and track their internet usage. While this can be useful in certain criminal cases, generally it is seen as an invasion of privacy. Anonymizers act as a proxy between the internet and the client device and shield the client from intrusions and also protects the clients personal information by hiding the devices true location and IP address.
