The Worldwide Protests against censorship in Bangladesh coincided with the Bengali blackouts and aimed to protests against the censorship in Bangladesh, and specifically against the imprisonment of four Bangladeshi bloggers. Physical protests were held in New York, Dhaka, Washington, London, Ottawa, and outside other Bangladesh embassies.
The protests aimed to bring to attention the harsh measures of censorship present in Bangladesh and the persecution of those people who were attempting to exercise free speech. The protests were organized by representatives to the U.N and Avijit Roy who is the founder of a website to bring together free thinkers in Bangladesh. The protests gained great exposure and many intellectuals and writers showed their solidarity to the events.
