OpenConnect - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary
This open-source software application is used to connect devices to VPN’s (Virtual Private Networks), specifically VPNs which use Point to Point connections. Before Open Connect, Cisco had AnyConnect SSL which was a VPN client and this is still supported by many Cisco routers.
Open Connect was developed to replace AnyConnect and work as an open source version that used the SSL protocol from Cisco, but was not affiliated with the company in any way. To encrypt and authenticate the VPN traffic, Open Connect uses a combination of TLS and DTLS. Open Connect is available on a variety of different OS including Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS and also Android devices.
