Obscenity - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Encyclopedia
An obscenity is a word or phrase that is considered offensive in nature and that goes against the traditional morals of the period it is used. The word originates from the Latin term Obscene (offstage) in reference to how potentially offensive content was displayed offstage in theatrical productions.
Obscenity can be general terms such as swear words, or offensive content such a pornography, or sexual actions. In different countries around the world, obscenity is treated in different ways according to the particular nation's legal codes and social moral standards. For instance in the US there is an Obscenity Law which prohibits various things from being depicted in film and media, while in the UK there is the Obscene Publications Act which serves a similar purpose.
