ISSN - Hotspot Shield Glossary
ISSN stands for International Standard Serial Number and is a code that is used for identification of magazines, newspapers and other kinds of electronic and print media.
An ISSN is in most countries mandatory and takes the shape of ISSN + two sets of four digits + A check digit, for example - ISSN 1775-9832X. This system was first published as ISO 3297 in 1975 and the ISO is responsible for its maintenance. These codes help to easily identify media and serial publications and the ISSN’s are distributed by ISSN National Centers which are historically located in national libraries. ISSN’s have different prefixes for both Print media and Electronic Media- Print Media appends a p i.e. p-ISSN, while Electronic Media appends an e i.e. e-ISSN.
