Whitewashing (censorship) - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Encyclopedia

Whitewashing in terms of censorship is concerned with exonerating an individual or organization to make their records and actions appear noble, ethical and morally sound.

It is a form of positive spin used to turn a negative situation into a negative one by means of falsifying data and records and providing untruthful information to the public in order to hide the truth. Whitewashing has been widely used by governments who have undertaken questionable course of action such as wars, invasions and even genocide.

The whitewashing will attempt to give the government or person a clean slate and promote their action as heroic or for the good of the people etc. A prime example is where Soviet journalists created a set of falsified and biased records and articles to try and justify the nations invasion of Czechoslovakia.
