This is a form of censorship and oppression within a nations government that is used to try and suppress an opposing party and their political views.

A government in power will use various means to squash their political opposition and ensure that their views and beliefs are kept from the public. Instead of actively trying to engage in meaningful discussions and debates with the opposition, the organization in power will instead use suppression tactics to simply ensure that their opponent's voice is not heard. Aside from politics, forms of suppression of dissent is seen in other areas such as academics and general society where the individual or group who is deemed to be more intelligent will try and suppress the views of those who are felt to be inferior.
