The Global Internet Freedom Consortium is a group of organizations based in the United States who create anti-censorship technologies for people in countries where government censorship is implemented.
The consortium was initially created by Chinese nationals who were living in the US and wanted to act against the censorship of the internet in China. The group is self-funded from its members but has in the past received grant offers from the US Department of State. Their primary products are Freegate and Ultrasurf - Both of which are programs that allow users to surf the web without any blocks or censors using such circumvention methods as both standard and HTTP proxy servers.
