Don’t Filter Me is a project that was created by the American Civil Liberties Union that aims to protest and work against the apparent censorship of LGBT related websites that happens in the United States of America, particularly schools.
Many schools in America employ content filtering on their computer systems - These filters aim to block access to any inappropriate websites such as pornography, online gambling or the promotion of violence. These content-controlling means are seen as a positive thing, however most of the filters will block LGBT websites regardless of their content and class them as pornographic - There may be a LGTBT website that simply provides information or aid to people and it may not contain any offensive or explicit material at all - Content Control filters do not distinguish between this. As a result of the don’t filter me project, many schools altered their filters, and had them leave any positive LGBT websites un-blocked.
