Debian is an open source operating system that is based on Unix and has been developed since 1993 as one of the earliest O/S to be released as an open source project.

Debian is touted as a universal operating system that anyone can access and use, and comes with a huge range of “packages” (around 43,000) that aim to enhance the OS usability. Debian uses the Linux and FreeBSD kernel’s and a large amount of tools from the GNU project. The operating system has been developed by a large community of contributors around the world and it has extensive documentation and support. Debian has many stable release versions and is also available in a range of different languages.
