The main clients for Bitmessage are PyBitmessage and Bitpost client. Bitmessage.ch specifically provides an email service for Bitmessage that allows the encrypted messages to be sent using standard email protocols. Bitmessage has seen a surge in usage after revelations appeared in the news about the NSA’s surveillance operations in 2013. The communications protocol was developed in 2012 and is available on Windows, Mac OS, Linux and FreeBSD.
