Anti-Spyware Coalition - Definition from the Hotspot Shield Glossary

The Anti-Spyware Coalition was formed in 2005 and has the aim of building a general consensus about the best practices concerning defining, identifying and categorizing forms of spyware.

The group was formed after a previous consortium was disbanded (the COAST - Consortium of Anti-Spyware Technology Vendors) due to disagreements. The ASC drafted a series of documents that aimed to define spyware and other threatening technologies, and a process for vendors to resolve any disputes. After the creation and review of these documents, a risk model was created to provide businesses with a clear framework for identifying spyware. In 2007, a public version of their documents and model were released.
